Savannah.gnu.org back online

Some weeks after being taken down due to a security compromise, the GNU project's Savannah server is back online - sort of. Quite a few subsystems are still not operational; see this posting on the current situation and the changes that have been made. The remaining site functionality should come back in January. What is also needed, however, is a detailed explanation of how the system was compromised, and for how long.

Savannah.gnu.org back online

As a somewhat recent convert from SourceForge to Savannah, I'm glad to see it back up. I just recently had someone else join me on my project (Shameless plug: GiftWeb), and I've been waiting to get CVS access back to be able to easily get his patches integrated.

It will be interesting to see how all the new security features work, especially GPG signing of CVS commits!

The people at FSF have done an excellent job of keeping us updated on the status of the recovery and their ideas for improving security. Well done!
