GMx Solutions announces CM_SAFE 1.5 with Disaster Recovery functionality
GMx Solutions Adds Disaster Recovery Functionality to CM_SAFE Configuration
File Management Tool
Robust Toolset Allows Businesses to Form Complete Enterprise Disaster
Recovery Plans.
TAMPA, FL, July 19, 2002 – GMx Solutions has extended CM_SAFE, its robust
configuration-file management tool, to include easy-to-use functionality
that allows systems administrators to create configuration-file recovery
images that can be restored with a single command. For the first time,
companies can use a single tool complete comprehensive disaster recovery and
business continuity plans.
“Most companies cover software and data assets in their disaster recovery
plan,” said GMx Solutions Chief Technical Officer James Neal. “CM_SAFE
allows businesses to quickly re-create their operational configuration by
running a single command for each host being re-established. When you add
that to existing CM_SAFE functionality, this becomes a vital tool for
managing open systems servers.”
The extensive CM_SAFE disaster recovery function allows businesses to add
server configuration assets to their current disaster recovery and business
continuity plans. Systems administrators can easily create recovery images
for any host monitored by CM_SAFE and place them on CDs for later usage. If
recovery is required, the CM_SAFE self-documented restoration capability
allows even the most junior system administrator to restore the recovery
image to its respective host.
With CM_SAFE disaster-recovery kits, businesses can recover their
configuration as quickly as they recover their software and data, cutting
the time to full operation by hours. These recovery reductions can save
companies millions of dollars in lost revenue and market value during a
chaotic time when regaining operational ability can literally be required
for a business’s continued survival. The CM_SAFE configuration asset
recovery functionality can also assist companies in complying with disaster
recovery regulatory requirements such as the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), and
ISO-17799.
CM_SAFE also provides full configuration management and version control
capability for configuration files. It allows systems administrators to
easily store server configuration files for individual hosts or groups of
hosts in a centralized configuration repository. In the event of a
configuration problem, CM_SAFE analysis tools quick identification of the
problem. Systems administrators can then use a single command to retrieve a
known-working configuration from the repository, restoring the host to a
working state.
CM_SAFE enables customers to configure replacement servers on demand,
document current and proposed changes to their enterprise infrastructure,
and provides visual reports that pinpoint changes made in important
configuration files, increasing security for business-critical applications.
“Our internal benchmarking has shown that companies that use CM_SAFE as part
of the system management tool suite can reduce downtime incidents. When
these incidents do occur, we can reduce their length by as much as 80
percent,” said Alan Preston, GMx Solutions’ CEO. “This reduction can save
businesses millions of dollars in lost revenue and market value.”
The CM_SAFE server now supports IBM iSeries and zSeries hosts. Client
components are currently available for UNIX clients on iSeries, zSeries,
Intel, SPARC, and PA RISC platforms. Support for PowerPC, Microsoft Windows
NT, and 2000 clients will soon be added.
CM_SAFE is the first of nine Virtual Appliances to be developed by GMx
Solutions. Virtual Appliances are designed to alleviate the most common
challenges faced by system administrators responsible who support open
systems servers. Each application included as a Virtual Appliance is
directed specifically at handling a challenge area. Future Virtual
Appliances will handle Event Management, Time Synchronization Management,
Network Information Management, Service Management, Authentication
Management, Messaging and Notification Management, Event Analysis
Management, and Print Management.
