Linux User Wins SCO Loss Pool

Mountain View, 22 Dec. Linux user Rob Walker won the SCO
Loss Pool by correctly predicting The SCO Group's loss of $1.6
million for the quarter ended October 31, 2003.

According to a SCO Group press release dated today, the
company's controversial SCOsource licensing program has signed
up only two licencees -- Sun Microsystems and Microsoft.
Both companies, like SCO, sell legacy operating system products
threatened by the growth of Linux.

It is widely believed that SCOsource licenses are unnecessary.
HP, which is both a Linux and UNIX licensee, has conducted
due diligence in connection with The SCO Group's claims, and
released a document stating, "HP has found no intellectual
copyright infringements within Linux."

The Gartner Group has advised corporate Linux users not to
pay SCO for Linux licenses.

The SCO Group has backed down on two key threats against Linux
users. First, it failed to issue invoices it threatened to
send to companies using Linux. It has also so far failed to
bring a threatened copyright infringement lawsuit.

The SCO Group has already predicted revenue of only $10 to
$14 million for its quarter ended January 31, 2004, making
another loss likely.

Walker's prize will be three collectible issues of the popular
monthly magazine, Linux Journal.

Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, or HP. The SCO Loss Pool was
