I have been a regular reader of LWN for longer than I care to remember. Every thursday morning I download the weekly news as one large page onto my laptop so I can read it at my leisure. I was shocked to hear that LWN was to be shut down and I will wholeheartedly support a subscription based site. LWN is one of the best sites on the internet and to lose it would make my thursdays a bit darker.

One method of testing the number of potential subscribers would be to run an online poll. This would give you a rough estimate and allow you to plan further if you are willing.
