Activa Sistemas releases ASLinux Desktop 1.0.
Seville (Spain), 1st December 2003
Activa Sistemas launches today its new business line as a Linux
manufacturer with the release of ASLinux, a platform resulting from
years of work in the design, development and deployment of Debian based
systems.
The new line of products starts with ASLinux Desktop 1.0, a Linux
distribution aimed to domestic PCs. Available for 32-bit Intel and AMD
CPUs, ASLinux Desktop 1.0 offers a complete, stable and intuitive
environment that easies daily work with Linux. It also includes all the
features that any end user may demand: office tools, Internet,
multimedia, games and fun, etc. Finally, because of the growing
popularization of broadband Internet access in Spain's homes, ASLinux
Desktop 1.0 offers a personal firewall, easily configurable through its
graphical interface.
ASLinux Desktop combines Linux's strength, Debian's power and
versatility and the friendliness of a graphical desktop. Always thinking
about the market to which this product is targeted, one of ASLinux
Desktop 1.0 most remarkable features is that it includes only one option
per application type, instead of offering hundreds of software packages
among which the user eventually gets lost, harnessing a satisfactory
experience with the system. ASLinux Desktop 1.0 is based on Debian Sarge
and comes with kernel 2.4.22, XFree86 4.3.0, KDE 3.1.3, ALSA 0.9.6,
OpenOffice.org 1.1, Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 and MPlayer 0.90, in addition
to numerous packages that cover the most typical areas of computer use
at home, like e-mail, IM, graphical design or CD redcording, just to
name a few.
ASLinux Desktop 1.0 is bundled in a DVD case containing 2 CDs (the first
one can also be used as a "live CD"), a printed stating guide and 90
days of premium access to ASLinux web portal, where the user will find
advanced services like software updates, assorted documentation,
technical support or a newsletter, among other features. The suggested
retail price is 19.95 EUR + VAT and can be acquired via three different
ways: from official resellers, through Activa Sistemas' virtual shop
(http://www.activasistemas.com/linuxtienda) and preinstalled in new
PCs.
