The first ALSA 1.0 release candidate

The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) project has been working at the creation of a new audio subsystem for the Linux kernel (along with user-space support) since early 1998. Now, almost six years later, the project has announced its first 1.0 release candidate. This release is not that far removed from what is in the 2.6.0-test11 kernel; still, it might be a good time for audio enthusiasts to test things out one last time.

I'm kind of sorry to see that no comments have been posted here, because sound under free*nix is important to me. Maybe everone else is just like me, and can think of nothing in particular to say... anyway, I'd like to express my appreciation to all of the ALSA developers, and the OSS devs before them. I do keep tabs on some of the various free/oss sound application developments (especially recording software). I look forward to the day when free*nix is as important to audio professionals as it has become for animation (& etc.). I hope I am able to lend my feeble efforts to a project or two in the near future.

Gak. That sounds like a graduation commencement address or something <g>
