The FSF requires employer disclaimers or explicit employer copyright transfers for all contributions to FSF-owned programs such as GCC, the GNU C library, GDB, the binutils (the assembler and linker), etc. This places those projects on somewhat safer legal ground than the Linux kernel is on, though the main advantage is that it enables the FSF to aggressively (though quietly) pursue infringers.
