sorry to rain on the parade, but this is pure PR hype.
the terminology is all wrong: eg "the greater Canada area" is meaningless;
tests are "on-going", but also "successful". there's no mention of deployment
except 4 freebie public-access sites in one of our poorest provinces.
the new office will "work closely with the Canadian government",
but no-one from that august body is quoted showing interest or otherwise.
in fact, no real living Canadian seems to be quoted anywhere.
there's been very little -- regretably -- re Linux & govt anywhere in Canada:
we move slowly but surely up here in the freedom-loving north.
i'ld love to see our new Ontario govt & Toronto admin favor open-source,
but the lobbying has still to start & the debate to begin.
meanwhile, in China, India, Brazil, Germany ...

I used to do a lot of work with FLOSS in Governments, and have had long and serious discussions with various Canadian Government officials around FLOSS. There is definite interest, and there are some people working on getting FLOSS in the door in Canada. The way IT provisioning is structured for the Canadian Government makes it highly likely that once the (lenghty) process of "checking it out" is succesfully passed, adoption will be relatively rapid and smooth. Don't give up just yet ;-)
