"to non-profit and open source projects."This still isn't DFSG-free, is it? Shouldn't Sun do everything they can to make the community want to use Java instead of C#/Mono? Why not just make it open, let it flourish, and sell Java-related tools and VMs?

Java is really slow man. Really slow. I mean slow. I can't belive folks still go for this stuff. Slow. That's what it is.

What this means is that, JBOSS and Geronimo will legally be able to say, that they are J2EE compliant and they will get some kind of access to the required conformance testing kits to verify that claim and get the certification from Sun. This does not mean that Sun will distribute java or javac or anything else as open source. So Debian will be able to distribute JBOSS and Geronimo, which have always been Open Source (which is the same as DFSG-free, isn't it). On the other hand you are right, that for Joe Random Hacker this really isn't any news at all, since JBOSS et al have already existed for a long time. The new licensing rules are more about bureacracy than Open Source code. henrik
