Parent article: Sun Strikes Huge Linux Desktop Deal With China (TechWeb)

When I first hearded the term "Sun Java Desktop", that I thought, that
it's something, what is totally based on Java and that the programming
model for this desktop's user is also based on Java, for instance, that
I could take a window of one program and stick it somehow in to my own Java program. It could have been an intereasting system from computer-sciense's point of view, but.... well, as I have heared from the lwn.net postings, I was daydreaming... Where did they take such a misleading phrase for their product???

Sun is schizophrenic. From all appearances, there is substantial infighting going on within the company. The so called "Java Desktop System" is most likely a compromise between those who want to move ahead with embracing Linux/GNU and those who keep on thinking that the proprietary Solaris OS is still the way to go.

You might be interested in the JD4X project: jdx.sourceforge.net. It is still in its very early stage of development but it might be what you are looking for.

Thank You for the link!! Now that's exactly, what I think the Sun is missing!!! I think that tey should ship it as an alternative to Gnome, not to mention, it would be appropreate for them to finance the JD4X project.
