Debian seems to be more conservative about providing users with the latest version of upstream packages. I expect that a RedHat user would feel like they were downgrading if they decided to install debian/testing (XFree and Gnome spring to mind). While all things can be installed under debian i think the standard RedHat user would find the extra effort undesirable and be deterred. - this admission from a content Debian user...
