I assume you mean a proprietary system, but I don't see why peoples standards should be raised or lowered based on whether the software comes with freedom or not.
If the software is bad, don't use it. The only difference I see, is that with Free Software, you don't have to deal with secret file formats, so migrating to new software is easier. Or if you want to use the bad software, you can fix it.
