Yeah, I had the same concern, honestly. It's nice that you've got 20 bytes of SHA1 hash.. in theory, the odds against a single pair-wise collision should be a perfectly even 1 in 2^160 (or 1.46xe48), but that's still not zero, and the semantics of the thing really do call for perfect differentiability.
We'll see.. whether Monotone succeeds or fails, I doubt that it'll founder on the difference between 1/(2^160) and 0. There's so much else in a revision control system to get right.
