What I think stands out the most was not that the CVS gateway was hacked and questionable code inserted -- it was the speed and cooperation that allowed it to be quickly detected, removed and preventive measures taken to make it more difficult for such a compromise to take place.

This is an EXCELLENT example of one of the strengths of Open Source Development -- hundreds of eyes looking at the same thing. Kudos to Larry McVoy and everyone else at BitMover.

This is an EXCELLENT example of one of the strengths of Open Source Development

Funnily enough it was the non-free-as-in-religion* tool which some Open Source developers use that allowed for such a quick discovery of the attack.

Kudos to Larry and his justifiably paranoid cross checks.



*Or, free as in assembly+, free as in association, free as in bearing arms, etc. There are more freedoms than speech.



+Assembly may be free, but the Assembler's not... (baaa dumm)
