I configured my firewall with MASQUERADE + port forwarding of 6881 and 6882 to one system behind the firewall. You don't need the full range 6881-6999 if you use only a single system (you can still run multiple bittorrent at the same time).

I will try that out. As I am using ADSL, I don't have that much outgoing speed (128k); is that a problem ?

That shouldn't be a problem. Bittorrent downloads the file pieces from different places, so slow connection with you won't prevent downloading other parts in the same time. Sure, the download will be faster for you. Consider leaving bittorrent running until it uploads as much data as it has downloaded.
