Today at Go/No-Go meeting it was decided to slip Fedora 20 Alpha release
by one week due to two unresolved blocker bugs, see the blocker tracking app [1].
Otherwise we think we have pretty solid foundation for Alpha. More details in
meeting minutes [2].

As a result, ALL MAJOR MILESTONES, and their dependent tasks, will be
pushed out by one week [3].

The next Go/No-Go meeting is on Thursday, Sep 19, the same time but
due to possible conflict with FPC meeting we will move to
#fedora-meeting-2 channel.

Fedora 20 Alpha to slip by one week

I tried F20 with Gnome 3.10 and it is way better than recent fedora alphas at this stage.

Likewise, the GNOME experience is arguably better than GNOME 3.8 final already (partly because the JS and Clutter bugs are fixed, but I probably shouldn't push my luck and keep my extensions disabled).

Shaping up to be a good release, the only thing I have to hold back is my kernel (still at 3.9.x, a regression introduced in 3.10 is still not fixed. So much for Project Sputnik)

Will these fixes be backported to Gnome 3.8 ? Fedora 19 (current release) is meant to be supported till just after the release of Fedora 21, no ?

Depends on the nature of the bugs. Fedora updates sometimes include backported fixes but for majority of packages, the update is just the new upstream release.

Not meant to be antagonistic here, but according to the Updates Policy we have:
Releases of the Fedora distribution are like releases of the individual packages that compose it. A major version number reflects a more-or-less stable set of features and functionality. As a result, we should avoid major updates of packages within a stable release. Updates should aim to fix bugs, and not introduce features
Understandable within the context, even though it does touch on the "forced upgrade issue" (ie. the entire OS needs to be updated to get updates for software) that was discussed in a separate thread. However, let's not get into that here. We also have:
... stable releases will not closely track the very latest upstream code for all packages

Sure, within the given context this is consistent. But this doesn't explain why the fixes for the JS and Clutter bugs are not backported to Gnome 3.8, which is in Fedora 19, a supported release.

Further into the Updates Policy we have

The update fixes serious bugs that many fedora users are encountering.
which would suggest that these fixes should be backported. If this is not the case, perhaps the Updates Policy needs further clarification?

We don't sufficient data to determine that. I haven't seen the bugzilla reports and I don't know how serious they are and how easily the relevant patches can be backported. If you know and you believe it is warranted, ping the maintainers and ask.

Which fixes / bugs are you actually talking about?

Maybe I spoke too soon. Changing the icons or themes in Gnome-shell crashes the gnome-shell. Tried MateDE and the caja multiple windows opening on startup bug is back in action, with Dan working hard on it, again. I don't know how everybody feels, but gnome-control-center has improved a lot. Lightdm icons rendering is buggy. Lot of bug reports to file.
