Parent article: Fedora keeps sendmail — for now

Isn't local e-mail delivery is still used by some applications that generate reports (i.e. logwatch)? Yeah I know that Lennart shot syslog in the head a "long time" ago so maybe logwatch is a bad example; but I'm sure there are many other applications that need to send messages to people that simply don't fit the system-logging model, and these programs tend to generate and e-mail reports.

Logwatch was mentioned as a tool that requires an MTA to do its job. But logwatch seems to be seen as a fairly old-school solution these days as well.

If somewthing requires an MTA it should require an MTA and not assume that it is there by default.

No one wants to remove it from the distro just not have it installed by default.
