I see the problem of bringing in money, and am truly sorry to see LWN go. Although not a kernel developer, I did enjoy the background information very much.

I suppose there was not too much interest from the industry to keep a valuable newssite going ... truly sad.

Incidentally, I would have preferred a subscription-based model over the loss of LWN (maybe some permanent money would actually have brought back some really useful features that went earlier, like the desktop page). How many others would have joined in?
