Why don't distributions synchronize?

It might sound a bit radical, but why don't the major Linux distributions synchronize their releases? I mean Fedora and Ubuntu already have six months release cycles and there are two kernel releases conveniently during this period. So let's say the kernel should target January, April, July and October, KDE and GNOME should target April and October, then the distributions targeting May and November can have reasonably new stuff from everything.
