Surely that means that most of the code base will be thrown away. Sounds like a waste to me. I wonder if they will hit their schedule. I'm sure we know the answer.

They're planning on using PyQt (not Qt/C++), and possibly some JQuery with the HTML/JS code. If their code base is reasonable structured (it sounds like they've written their own video editing library, so it seems like it to some degree), then switching out the entire UI layer *shouldn't* be too big of a deal (it won't be a full rewrite).
It seems like they're confident it will be a net-win for them.

It was replaced by PyGObject.

In both case, except if PyGObject is built to mirror PyGTK API, you must completely rework the GUI part. And they seem to expect some gains from using Qt.
