Given the history of RDBMS software security I think this is a very accurate statement.

Maybe today. But I'd expect the PostgreSQL team to highlight an ambition to reorient that trajectory.
After all, databases is where there is the most need about data security and where there is no serious competitor with such an ambition.
Don't they call that a "quick win" at business 101? ;-)
