You're not. I use both a desktop and a laptop with Fedora, that I shut down when I'm done. Make no mistake, I also use suspend (on both), but it's not the same use case.
Side note: thanks a lot to Máirín Duffy for taking the time to do this summary. I didn' see any reference to the impact of LVM by default in the installer though. Probably something to fix as well.
