Version 3.0 of the Ardour digital audio
workstation system has been released. "This is
the first release of Ardour that features support for MIDI recording,
playback and editing. It also features a huge number of changes to audio
workflow, which for many users may be more significant than the MIDI
support." See the "What's
new" page for details. (Thanks to Andreas Kågedal.)

Almost a feasible Linux-native open source alternative to the basic capabilities of ProTools for audio and MIDI.

For some of us who don't require the MIDI stuff Ardour has been a feasible alternative to PT for a while now. Ardour 3 does have a few nice features that will improve my work flow.
