A couple days ago fijal tried to persuade the #perl6 channel of the merits of doing an RPython backend. jnthn, the Rakudo dev currently porting NQP to the JVM (the main step toward porting Rakudo), said he was interested but wanted to wrap this first port before spending much time thinking about further ports.

(He's spent years thinking about portability issues and otherwise preparing for ports to VMs other than Parrot and I'm sure that'll be going on as he completes the JVM port.)
