People might not like that "evasion of the spirit of the GPL", but it means (a) that those of us who want a Free kernel don't have it tainted by closed binaries, and (b) it provides a very strong marketing advantage for any company that IS prepared to release a Free driver. We all know how the user-kernel context switch can hammer performance. Not too bad if you've only got one or two such devices, but it's not going to be popular with the punters. And then one company bites the bullet, and the rest are forced to follow suit :-) Cheers,
