UNIX and Linux are evolving tool sets.
Yes, and part of that evolution is replacement of components of the system with new components as the demands of the system change. It seems to me that the people screaming that it's unnecessary to replace a 30 year old component that is obviously crufty and full of hacks are the ones standing in the way of Unix and Linux evolution, not the ones who are proposing a replacement.
