I assume the Ubuntu rolling release would not have a freeze, like Debian testing does, before a Ubuntu LTS release. There are other problems with Debian testing which LWN has covered.

I was talking about unstable, not testing. Plenty of people run unstable as their daily system, for precisely the reasons mentioned.
There are even distributions whose purpose is basically to make it easier to install and run Debian unstable:
