A Hungarian news portal recently redesigned its look. It doesn't worth mentioning that it works with some browsers and doesn't with others. Even the same browser on the same operating system could lead to different (working vs non-working) results. I my opinion this "web application thing" is a really stupid idea, just doesn't work. It is probably no wonder that there's so much demand for apps on mobile - the browsers just don't work.

The designers at one website got it wrong and you're saying that the whole web is broken because of it?

Not one - I have 4 browsers installed and running, because some sites work only with certain browsers. Probably LWN is the only site I use that works with all browsers, even gmail is broken in Opera.

At least last year Gmail seemed frequently broken also in Debian Stable's old version of Google's Chromium browser (Gmail tab freezes after the page has loaded). If Google's mail web service doesn't work in Google's web browser, I think it a good indication that web indeed is broken.
