I just realized that quote from the executive at the computer maker had a typo and should s/are/aren't/, to read instead:
copyright infringement claims aren't legally invalid unless you hold a majority of the copyrights.
I think the intent of the quote was clear because of the
unless part, but to be abundantly clearly: he was arguing that copyright claims are invalid legally without all copyright holders, which just isn't true.
