FWIW, I'm seeing evidence that people are just plain walking away from the GPL. Android is one obvious example. More recently, status.net just announced they're end-of-lifing their code (Affero-licensed) and restarting a new project entirely based on ASL; as seen in earlier LWN story: https://lwn.net/Articles/529681/
