If you feel the need for a First Law, how about "Performance is a trade-off". In this case we trade off performance for functionality.

Then you will have a bad time explaining how and why 4.2 is faster and uses less battery than 4.0 and 4.1 ... :-D

Hmm, this indicates to me that my experience is atypical, which means it is less likely to be noticed and fixed :(.
(Before upgrading to 4.2, my Nexus 7 could last at least a week in standby with the wireless on. Now if I forget to turn the wireless off when I'm done with it the battery will be dead by the next day.)
