CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly builds available

We recently complained that CyanogenMod builds based on the Android 4.2 release were not available for most devices, meaning that CyanogenMod lacked features found in stock Android builds. So it seems only fair to point out that the CyanogenMod nightly builds page now includes CM10.1-based (and, thus, Android 4.2-based) builds for a wide variety of targets. CM10.1 works well on the Nexus 7 tablet, with no real problems found so far.

(Just be sure to install updated Google Apps as well or things will not go well...not that your editor would ever make such a mistake.)

Whereas my complaint would be that I wish they would provide builds for devices that aren't going to get Jelly Bean, rather than ones that already have it! I see no sense in upgrading a Nexus 7, which runs beautifully on the stock Jelly Bean (4.2) ROM. But I'd love to upgrade my HTC Sensation phone, whose stock ICS (4.0) ROM seems to grow slower and clunkier by the day...

Heh.

ICS 4.0 was amazing when it was new.

Nothing changed, yet now it is clunky.

Bit Rot.

You may call it the "Second Law of Performance": your code is not going any faster as time goes by (on the same set of devices).

If you feel the need for a First Law, how about "Performance is a trade-off". In this case we trade off performance for functionality.

Then you will have a bad time explaining how and why 4.2 is faster and uses less battery than 4.0 and 4.1 ... :-D

That can often be the case. In those situations I ask myself: why was it so slow before? A trade-off that comes to mind is: performance vs time to market.

Hmm, this indicates to me that my experience is atypical, which means it is less likely to be noticed and fixed :(.

(Before upgrading to 4.2, my Nexus 7 could last at least a week in standby with the wireless on. Now if I forget to turn the wireless off when I'm done with it the battery will be dead by the next day.)
