"was" should be "was not".
The point is, when it looks like you can win, you push your amendments, but if the vote is soon and you don't think you can win, you consider pushing for a delay instead.
In a case like this where the MEPs would agree that they hadn't understood all the major aspects of the issue, a delay was realistic, so asking for it was the right move.
