Debian on Steroids II.1: When a Dot Means a Lot (Linux Journal)

Linux Journal reviews Libranet 2.8.1. "While Libranet 2.8.1 may be only a dot release, it is a compelling offering for desktop users looking for an easy to install and maintain Linux distribution. Anyone looking for a distribution that arrives ready and able to do some serious work should give this Debian distribution a try."

(Posting here rather than at LJ because I'm registered here and don't
want to register there.)

I'm a Libranet 2.8 user (plus Debian-sarge updates and a bit of unstable)
and I love it. I'll probably buy the next release after 2.8.1, but not
2.8.1 itself.

This article makes a big deal of "full" WordPerfect support in AbiWord
and Kword. Well, apparently that doesn't loading include WP5.x
documents. Abiword 1.99.5+cvs.2003.08.30-1 (later than what they say is
in Libranet 2.8.1) completely choked on my wife's dissertation. And I'm
not sure what version of Kword is in Libranet 2.8.1, but Kword 1.2.92 was
only able to get the first page of this multi-hundred-page file. Neither
program appears to list WP in the available file formats in the open
dialog.

Be aware that AbiWord requires a plugin to handle WP files.

See http://www.abisource.com/twiki/bin/view/Abiword/PluginMatrix.

Yes. I have it. I'm pretty sure it only supports WP6 and up.

See Abiword bug 3741.
