Unless the dominant OS acknowledges that the alternatives are better and that the situation is going to persist because it does not select that as priorities. It would allow the dominant OS to prioritize other objectives (possibly bigger than those the alternatives could pretend to).
Ok, that's probably a form of subsiding, helping or something like that. And then?
If one has to choose between evolving Linux into a shark or a dolphin; my choice is taken. (And, by the way, there are already plenty of sharks in the sea, may not be so safe in the long run.)
