The server, on the other hand, doesn't use KDE or even Qt, but instead uses node.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis, none of which are particularly KDE-related.
It's unfortunate that you write "use KDE" since for a long time now "KDE" is defined as the community and not the software. We are trying to make this distinction since KDE software has grown far outside what the traditional KDE desktop used to be. Also, a "KDE application" is an application from the KDE community, not an application for the KDE workspaces - previously known as the KDE desktop. A KDE application can be run anywhere: on any Linux/unix desktop, Windows, MacOS X and soon I guess also Android.

Please show me a person who is neither part of, nor outside of but closely associated with, the KDE community who can be bothered to use unqualified "KDE" to refer exclusively to the community rather than the desktop environment.

Heh, there probably are afew of them. They probably also run GNU/Linux, edit their documents with OpenOffice.org and display all of it with the X Window System. :-P

Probably libreoffice by now - your point still stands though :)

There is no X Window System. There is a window system named X. One could say the X window system ;-) (Take account of upper/lower case use).

Historical usage disagrees with you. Try a 'man X' one of these days.

Sorry, I confused it with "X Windows" which is not among the sanctioned names. Personally I use the one true name: "X". More is loquaciousness ;-).
