Does compiling a new kernel finish faster?

Do GUI window things respond more quickly when you clickety clickety click on them? (I'm not sure how to measure that.)

Does alsaplayer skip less?

Do bash scripts that traverse big filesystems with "find" go faster?

I'm serious about these questions, although I'm not sure how to measure most of them.

These are load-time measurements.. ie how long does it take for Mozilla to start from the command prompt on a freshly booted machine. It does not test interaction, compilation or other runtime speeds.

I believe you'll find the new 2.6 kernel addresses many of the things you've mentioned, especially audio skipping and "interactivity".
