Dear editor, the main reason I see personally for the BSDs diffculties, is the fact that they did not have a BSDWN.net site for the last decade.
Can't you give them some help on that?

Actually they had several. But they didn't have a Corbet.
There used to be a "Daemon News" that had interesting articles by a handful of writers. But if I remember right, they never really went into in-depth debates on the current flamewar in -current and the merits of all sides, the way LWN covers the LKML debates. Probably because the writers were all active in development and couldn't really write impartially.

BTW, personal merits aside, knowledge issues seem to be involved in the problem too.
And I don't think one man alone can really try to gather detailed enough knowledge about several of these piece of software... But I really wonder what several persons with similar skills as our editors could say on a general comparison article.

Perhaps LWN could increase its BSD coverage somewhat? LWN is no longer "Linux" only, after all.
