Crowding out OpenBSD
If one takes a step back to admire the wider OS landscape, then it is rather clear the Linux and the BSD:s are really variations of the same operating system. The "monoculture" does not really advance that much if one of them dies. For something that is actually different (while still staying in the F/OSS OS world), one should look at the BeOS-inspired operating system Haiku, or even ReactOS, or FreeVMS.
