Motif was one of the first proprietary libraries that I tried to chase a bug into (and failed, due to lack of source). It was part of the onslaught of proprietary software I had to deal with that turned me into a Free Software zealot. Sadly, I don't even recall what the bug was; since we didn't have support contract on our DecStations when I was an undergrad, I could never report it. Of course, liberating code is the last bastion to rekindle relevancy, but in this case, 20 years late may indeed be too late.
