It works so well that my co-workers used it as an example that pure X can be perfectly usable over WANs :)

It kind of disproves the point though, and validates the Wayland approach; it shows that you need a proxy compositor to make the latency less biting on all the round-trips you need to do. Which is heaps.

It disproves the point rather more strongly than that - xpra only sends bitmaps (optionally compressed via a range of codecs), not X.
