Why inject language advocacy here? Looking to go wildly off topic?

I was just momentarily terrified by the thought of using PHP to drive a build system. It's not quite as bad as using DBase IV (something I saw long, long ago), but it's getting there.

Don't worry, it's just using a PHP script as if it were a shell script:

There was a time when people would be horrified to see JavaScript anywhere outside the browser. Now, with Node, it's becoming a fairly capable systems programming language.

I fully share your disdain for PHP but I think there's still a (slim) chance that a well written PHP script might pleasantly surprise me. And, happily, it's usually easy to rewrite a working script into a different language.

A lot of people are STILL horrified to see JS outside the browser. Hmm. A lot of people are horrified by it even INSIDE the browser.
