Seems that Mageia folks got it right.

For the record, Kochereshkin was fired from Armada after roughly a year there (the holding is associated with a "Russian competitor" for several years by now) and the degree of his incompetence and illiteracy struck me badly. I'll try to translate one of his gems close enough to the original style (or the lack thereof):

Thus RASPO members took decision to participate in the tender on unprofitability terms, to no let win those, which initiated wrong from our point of view, technical assignment requirement statements.

Поэтому членами РАСПО было принято решение принять участие в конкурсе на заведомо бесприбыльных условиях, с целью не допустить победы того участника, кто инициировал неправильные с нашей точки зрения, формулировки требований технического задания.

Just imagine, a confession of known damping from a PR manager (with commas in all the wrong places). Not to mention that the result of their "work" was selling a bunch of paper along with a copy of Red Hat (sic!) package base and a copy of few publicly available git repos for RH projects like koji (IIRC there were 6 slightly changed packages) to the government for a discounted price of 5M roubles or roughly $150k.

Komissarov has proved himself to be a total loss in FLOSS affairs and community development right from the outset, mangling all the copyleft and permissive licensing into a big mess while announcing "a repository" and misappropriating development credit for the code done by a competitor to his own company (source and an uncensored archived copy).

By the way, I've heard they have threatened a major FLOSS site with litigation asserting that some of my comments were libel -- wish these were (there was a somewhat similar episode with an O'Reilly review with the comments being withdrawn but that was sorted out after appealing to official contacts and later Tim himself).

There are some good people like Rubanov onboard of course, but even he suddenly lacked grace when publichly bashing Novodvorsky and privately asking for a pardon "since he needs to show loyality". This particular company's attitude became apparent all too quickly and was the base for me to warn folks to avoid them like plague back in 2009 -- in fact, just the same treating as Microsoft and SCO got for their corporate lies and bullying.

It's not a pleasure at all to tell this and definitely a waste of development time. But the lies are spreading if let so, and the people are getting crippled and involved into these lies. That's worse than proprietary software. And we should stand together against that attitude, whatever company exhibits it.
