Nothing significant for Akademy 2013 (KDE) either otherwise they wouldn't be advertising hard for a host. See the Dot.

Every big open source project is having big conferences every year. Perhaps there is some fatigue showing on the organization front.

GNOME has had the same problem. It's really quite a heavy load to do it, and burns a lot of good people out. But hiring pros is extremely expensive, and can flip a conference quickly from one attended by volunteer community members to one attended primarily by paid community members.

This is not true, there is at least one good host for Akademy 2013
