Which makes it clear why the systemd team isn't jumping up, dropping everything and sacrificing all that time on portability. They wouldn't be where they are today if portability was made a goal at the project outset. I still hope that one of the BSDs pick it up and make their own portable version because I think the systemd approach is superior to the old systems. BSD projects like OpenSSH show the way it can be done.
