Latest Sophos Cyber Security Challenge seeks to address critical Linux security skills gap (SecurityPark.net)

I'm not sure how a contest can be said to 'address' a skills gap in any real sense anyway. You're not creating new security geeks, just highlighting underappreciated existing ones -- and if there are a lot of those, there is something very wrong with the existing process for getting new security geeks employed.

This just looks like a variant on a jobs fair to me, and about as worthy of reporting. It's not really about fixing anything or addressing any sort of gap in anything at all.
