Thanks, you spelled out niceley what I was about to write.
Another similarly successful example is Python, with its "BFDL" (benvolent dicator for lifetime).
Having one person with an open mind, and very strong esthetic and technical viewpoints as ultimate decision maker seems to be the way to success.
