Before commenting on this, you may want to check out the complete text of the original article . This text is actually a sidebar, and as such is taken completely out of context (then again, how is this surprising).

The actual article is about Lindows, but it still isn't very flattering. Of course, he doesn't mention, and possibly doesn't even know about, the technical issues surrounding Lindows, like the apparent fact that Lindows runs with full root privileges (so you can crash Linux as easily as you can crash Windows; isn't that nice?). However, I haven't been able to track down any corroborating evidence of this (mostly because I don't care), so I don't know if the root issue is, in fact, true.

Personally, just based on what I hear through rumors and other, unsubstantiated information, it seems that Lindows should not be considered an example of Linux done "right". Several of the specific issues he comments on are addressed in other distributions (as I recall, SuSE had a very effective, and relatively easy-to-use X-server config tool, at least in 7.2). And I personally think that Mandrake does a more than acceptable job of making things easier for the "average user".

Or maybe that's just me ...
