I want to point out that you were testing package management system, not the fact that
some distribution has or not a particular package. I said this because the fact that SuSE
doesn't provide Mplayer it is not a fault of its package management system. If you really
want to make a "real engineering test" you must first look at the packages included in
each distro you want to compare and then select a minimal set to do the tests.
I also want to point out that YaST does integrate with KDE and Konqueror and provides
an easy way to install third party packages, something that is a great help for sysadmins
and newbies (and the answer you were looking with your experiment).
