I'm compiling a list of things that a reprogrammed but otherwise unmodified iPod might be good for (beyond just playing Ogg files). Please post your ideas here.

Useful applications Posted Sep 26, 2003 18:51 UTC (Fri) by jwb (guest, #15467) [Link] For one thing you could just replicate the iPod functionality with one addition: iPod-to-iPod transfers via FW. You could easily shoot music to and from your friends' iPods that way.This would work even if your friends' iPods are not running Linux. A Linux iPod could enslave a regular iPod and fiddle with its filesystem. mmm

Then the iPod could replace professional devices for doing radio interviews, recording concerts, etc...

No need to mess with firewire. I expect Apple will eventually release dictation features for the ipod, since it's just a matter of software.
